100% success for geotechnical division

As we look forward to a happy and prosperous 2017, we would like to take a few moments to recognise the outstanding achievements of our geotechnical services division in 2016.

The geotechnical services team finished the year with a 100% success record. In practice, this means that every waste classification project we carried out last year was accepted by both the client and the receiving site.

Accurate classification of waste soils, whether for reuse on-site or disposal off-site, is essential. Under the current waste classification guidelines, there is a significant cost difference for the disposal of different soil types. Inaccurate classification can cause significant problems during disposal. If there is any uncertainty as to the classification of materials, the chances are your disposal site will either refuse to accept the material or charge a higher rate than necessary.

Although materials testing is a relatively small component of any project cost, getting it wrong can have wide-ranging implications for project budgets and timescales. That’s why it’s important to choose the right geotechnical consultancy.

Rather than looking to achieve the lowest possible cost, look for a specialist that can leverage their experience to prescribe the most relevant suite of tests. Short-cutting the testing phase could turn out to be a false economy.

Conducting the proper tests is about more than due diligence. It enables you to successfully fulfil your duty of care, ensures you remain compliant with the current regulations and is a common-sense approach to risk management and mitigation.
